Salt scrub recipe for cleansing and protection.

Have you ever gotten an icky feeling, like you're just not feeling like yourself? Or maybe you've been to a haunted location that had bad vibes, and you can't shake them, or you feel like someone's been sending bad vibes your way. Sensitives like me and others who are sensitive to energies around them might benefit from a bit of cleansing when things don't feel quite right. A salt scrub might be the ticket back to your peace of mind.

I've developed this salt scrub for myself to help cleanse away negative energies and restore my aura to its original sparkling state. Being a medium isn't always fun when you have things follow you around. This scrub can help if you're like me or if you're empathic, live in a haunted home, or even if you feel a little off. Give it a try, and let me know how it worked for you!

Let's talk about ingredients.

Your first ingredient is salt, obviously. I use pink salt, which produces a higher vibration than, say, table salt or sea salt. Himalayan pink salt helps slough off negative vibrations and is known for its ability to cleanse and purify and bring peaceful feelings. You can buy large bags of it fairly cheaply. One resource I use often is SaltWorks. You can also get red salt (for curse-breaking) and black salt (for warding off evil). For this recipe, I use fine-grain pink salt.

You'll need some oil to hold it all together. You can use olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil. I use avocado oil because it has very little fragrance and has the right texture and consistency to hold the salt and ingredients together without separating or making a goopy mess.

You'll need some essential oils. There is a range of brands out there, and some are more potent and pure than others. The two I trust most are Young Living Essential Oils (high-end) and Rocky Mountain Oils (mid-range). Here are the oils I use in this recipe by purpose. You can add to this list if you have a particular affinity for certain oils and their effects on you personally. I recommend these specifically to cleanse the body of negative energy and strengthen the auric field to prevent the energy from re-entering.

Essential oils for protection and cleansing.

  • Lavender

  • Sage

  • Cedar or Cedarwood (or any blend containing cedar)

Essential oils for aura strengthening.

  • Basil

  • Eucalyptus (or any blend containing it)

  • Vetiver

Extras.

Add these whole, physical herbs (not their essences) for an extra boost of protection:

  • Mugwort

  • Fennel

Add one or both of these to bless your concoction and give it some kick:

Let's put it all together.

You'll need a glass bowl, a metal spoon, and a glass container with a lid you can easily lift with wet hands. Please make sure the mouth of your jar is large enough to allow you to put your hand into it to get the mixture out.

1. In the glass bowl, add one cup of pink salt. If you have a larger container to fill, you can use two cups.

2. Add the oil. For one cup of salt, use a 1/4 cup plus half a 1/4 cup. For two cups of salt, use 3/4 cups of oil.

3. Add the essential oils. Use 6-8 drops of each oil. No more, no less.

4. Stir your mixture until the oil has been absorbed and all of the salt is wet.

5. Add a small palm full of each of the herbs.

  • If you use fennel, crush it first with a mortar and pestle. Fennel is a seed, so unless you buy it crushed, you'll have to crush it to get it to a semi-powdery consistency. Like so:

Use a small amount.

Crush it until it looks like this

Once you've crushed it, sprinkle it into your salt. It will look like this.

If you use mugwort, you may need to separate any clumps and then sprinkle it into the mixture.

6. Now, stir it all together. It should look something like this:

7. Bless it, if you're inclined, by sprinkling in three drops of holy water or spraying it lightly with florida water (or both). You may wish to say a blessing and call on your angels to help you. I typically recite, "Angels and Archangels of heaven, with your help, I bless this mixture so that it protects me and heals me of all negativity." You can use your own blessing as you feel comfortable.

Holy Water from Lourdes.

8. Now that you're done, carefully spoon the mixture into your jar of choice. Make sure you'll be able to get your hand into the jar to extract the mixture when you need it. If you spill any while filling the jar, throw out the spilled bit.

Using Your Salt Scrub

Place your scrub in the shower somewhere safe so that it won't fall. Each time you shower, use a tiny bit to rub on your shoulders and the back of your neck, and anywhere else you feel is a bit heavy (legs, knees, ankles). Some energies or spirits tend to cling to our joints, so pay particular attention to these areas, and if they feel heavy or stiff, scrub them with this mixture. Let it sit on your skin for a couple of minutes and picture all negative energy being repelled from your aura, bouncing off as if you were a living bouncy house. As you rinse, close your eyes and feel the negativity falling away down the drain. Picture your aura being sealed up with brilliant light. Say a prayer of thanks to the elements you have used in this cleansing.
